2 weeks from today I will be on a plane crossing the seas to Johannesburg, South Africa. I am extremely excited, I cannot explain it. I'm a little nervous and am missing people already but I know this is something that is going to change my life and be an incredible experience. I've been looking forward to this for a couple years now. It will be so incredible to finally experience everything I've been reading about and studying for a while. We have to read a few books in preperation. I finished the book Kaffir Boy a week or so ago and it was intense. A really good book if you are ever looking to learn about the basics of apartheid. It brought back so much of what I had learned in my class on apartheid last year. So many stories of destruction of life, religion, culture, families, and everything. I had to constantly remind myself this book was a true story. Fortunately for me I have studied the ending of apartheid. It is an inspirational but still sad story. There is so much hope for the country of South Africa but it must first deal with the terrible state apartheid left it in. It will be very interesting to experience South Africa and see the affects of apartheid, after all it only ended 13 years ago. We will spend the first 9 or 10 days in Johannesburg and then head to Namibia! Right now I'm most excited about South Africa just because I know more about the country's history, but I can't wait to learn and experience Namibia's as well. Lots to do in the next 2 weeks to prepare, but I'm sure it will get done. Oh, I probably have a intern in Cape Town set up for the summer, which sounds amazing, more on that when I know for sure.
In case you're wondering where Namibia is....
